Festival Profile

Through the years many exceptional Danish and international theatre groups have performed at Festival of Wonder: Silkeborg International Puppet Theatre Festival. The festival has presented puppet, object and visual theatre for adults and for children. There have been workshops for professionals and for other interested individuals of many ages. Films and exhibitions have also been important parts of the festival.

Our intention with the international theatre is to invite performances which have not previously been shown in Denmark and which add something new and inspiring to the art form of puppetry for the audience as well as the participating theatres. This is also true for the exhibitions, films and workshops we choose.

23 different Danish and international theatre groups, performed 75 shows at the last festival in 2005. There were performances in theatres, at museums, at the library, in the church, in the cinema, on the streets and in the public schools.

In 2007 25 theatres will give about 100 performances. In addition there will be films, exhibitions and workshops.

All the time we are following what is going on within Danish and international puppet-, object-, and visual theatre, and the profile of the festival will change as we learn of new ideas.

We are so happy for the great interest in the festival from both the audience and the participating theatres. We are also greatful for the backing by Silkeborg Kommune, Århus Amt and the Theatre Department of Statens Kunststyrelse.
